Your Purpose
As Store Manager, you make magic happen. You drive impact across the business and our communities through strategic planning, thoughtful execution, and inspiring leadership. You live and breathe the Poppy Barley brand, growing its presence and building meaningful connections within your community. You’re passionate about rethinking retail to create remarkable brand experiences, and you believe in business as a platform to create good in the world.
Your Responsibilities –
Leadership:
- Lead, develop, and coach your team to drive performance and deliver exceptional brand experiences.
- Spend the majority of your time on the retail floor, connecting with customers and your team. Lead by example, coaching in the moment and taking accountability for the full customer experience.
- Be a strategic leader by identifying challenges, seeking solutions, and aligning your team with key company objectives.
- Develop a strategic plan for your store that drives financial goals, brand-building initiatives, and operational excellence.
- Own the store’s key KPIs — including sales, returns, conversion, AOV, payroll, and store & employee NPS — and respond with clear strategies to meet or exceed targets.
- Create and support a culture that balances financial results, community impact, and execution — all within a fun, dynamic, and creative environment.
- Manage and delegate store workload and priorities in partnership with the Assistant Store Manager, ensuring clarity, accountability, and follow-through.
- Act as the key liaison between the store and head office, sharing insights and communicating updates that support business alignment.
- Resolve guest feedback and emergent issues, including escalations, by taking ownership and ensuring a "make it right" approach that reflects our brand values.
Brand and Marketing:
- Consistently deliver Poppy Barley’s retail brand experience and contribute to it by adding your knowledge and ideas.
- Utilize retail and brand tactics (including sales floor leadership, storytelling, employee training, merchandising, and marketing activations) to achieve the store’s objectives.
- Working with PB’s Marketing team, increase local brand awareness by executing a local market calendar that includes hosting influencers and in-store events.
- Build community connections, networking with local businesses, and bringing creative ideas to life through local events and partnerships.
- Stay up to date on all company campaigns, product launches and communications, and ensure all pertinent information is shared with your team.
People:
- Create and foster a respectful and inclusive team environment by welcoming and celebrating differences to ensure a supportive and engaging experience for all team members and guests.
- Oversee the hiring and development of an exceptional team that is able to drive guest experience and produce results.
- Work with the Retail Director to develop training and on-boarding plans for new hires, and execute on the training at the store.
- Create a leadership pipeline in store through training and development plans and by providing direct feedback, coaching, growth opportunities, and addressing performance concerns.
- Provide team member recognition, gap assessment, and overall performance documentation to support and reinforce career and personal growth.
Operations:
- Oversee the scheduling of the store to ensure accurate levels of staffing to complete both back-of-house tasks and high levels of customer service based on the budgets and store initiatives.
- Oversee the store’s visual merchandising and execute strategies that align with the company and store’s priorities and inventory position.
- Oversee the store’s operations, including POS training, backroom management, inventory intake and counts and e-commerce fulfilment.
- Provide feedback to the Product and Operations Teams and help in the development and roll-out of new solutions.
- Understand and adhere to people safety policies and procedures to maintain a safe work environment.
Your Strengths:
- Top performer with a proven track record.
- Demonstrated leadership ability with at least 2+ years experience in a leadership position; preferably in a customer-facing field. Experience in elevated/luxury customer experience is an asset
- Passion for the retail business.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to connect with people.
- An entrepreneurial spirit and passion for learning – you understand the importance of experimentation and improving process
- Strong self-starter who can manage time and priorities.
- You stay current and are on top of trends in retail, you’re well-connected, and you know how to navigate and grow your network to build community
- A passion for the fashion industry and building connections with people through styling and education
- We’re a technology-driven business – proficiency with Google Workspace is essential, and experience with Shopify is a strong asset.
- Bonuses: Post-secondary degree from University or College or experience working at a fast-growing
Everything Else:
- Flexibility in availability. Your schedule will include a combination of shift times, including mornings, evenings, and weekends to meet the needs of the business.
- Possibility of some travel to support Poppy Barley, pop-up shops and events.
- Holiday blackout period from mid-November to mid-January. Exact dates are determined annually.
- Unpacking boxes for inventory as required (boxes can weigh up to 40 lbs) and standing for long periods of time.
